YEP'S APPROACH TO YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS.

Afterschool

This program offers Tutoring, Mentoring, Technological and Life Skills, Leadership Training, Certification and Recreation.

Afterschool Services and Activities
A partial list of after-school and during the summer services and activities provided by the Youth Empowerment are as follows:

• Education Coaching / homework assistance, and SAT/ ACT Test Prep
• Mentoring support groups ( Male Mentoring, Family Mentoring, Young Ladies Mentoring and Career Mentoring)
• Life skills, financial literacy and leadership skills training
• STEAM Programs (Hydro/Aquaponic Clubs)
• College readiness and tours
• Career exploration/readiness, employability skills training, summer internships and job placement assistance
• Community service projects
• Youth/teen advisory council meetings to recommend programs, activities and policy for the YECs
• Certification: SafeServe and Hospitality and Customer Service
• Technology Programs ( Coding, Virtual reality, and Robotics)
• Other services and supports to help support the entire family.

Career Pathway

HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
This program was created for youth/young adults ages 17-19, grades 11 and 12; that have low grade point averages (GPA’s), little to no credits, or that has disconnected physically and mentally from the K-12 school system. The program was designed to re-engage students educationally to pursue their High School diploma by taking the Pearsonvue GED test; while being trained in one of the Building pre-apprenticeship trades (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Carpentry, and Welding) to acquire a NCCER Certification. In addition, young adults will earn a OSHA, First Aid, Aerial Lift, and Forklift Certification. The Building trade programs are provided by Florida Training Services, Inc., which is a registered trade pre-apprenticeship approved by the State of Florida and the Department of Labor.

GETTING STARTED
Upon committee application review, student will participate in a committee interview for acceptance
Student complete an application. Upon acceptance is notified, at which time   student will need withdraw from high school to begin the Career Pathway Program

PROGRAM STRUCTURE
The program has a (5) component structure in areas of Education, Construction Training,  Leadership Development, Graduate  Resources/recourses & Counseling/Support Services.
The program runs concurrent with the Palm Beach County School District calendar.
Academic graduation are generally held in late May early June 
Trade graduation are normally held the second week of June 

WEEKLY PROGRAMMING
Student(s) will participate in AcademicsMonday Wednesday, 9:30am-11:30am. Academics are held at the YEP Building.
Student(s) will participate in Trade Pre-apprenticeship Training, MondayWednesday 6:00pm-9:00pm, located off site at North Tech.  
Student(s) will participate in Leadership Training, Career Mentoring & Civic Engagement on Friday’s from 9:00am1:00pm.

COMMUNITY GED PROGRAM

Palm Beach County School District Adult and Community Education and the City of Riviera Beach Youth Empowerment have partnered together to provide young adults and nontraditional students an continued learning educational opportunity to achieve their high school diploma through completion of the state’s standard GED requirements.
